None of us is entitled to anything. We get what we get, not because we want it or we deserve it or because it’s unfair if we don’t get it, but because we earn it, we respect it, and only if we share it do we keep it.

Review

Back to the Future is perhaps one of my favourite sci-fi film series, so I had to get Michael J. Fox's memoir/ self-help book targeted towards new grads.

The book covers his life from a starving artist in L.A. unable to afford food to his meteoric rise as a film star, and the life lessons he has learned along the way.

The three key takeaways I had from this book were:

  1. A conventional education (schooling) may not be for everyone; there are multiple ways to learn and acquire knowledge and experience.

  2. Don't let success get to you; keep working hard and pursuing one's passions will yield more and greater successes.

  3. Read the book before watching the movie.

It's a very quick read and is filled with clichés, but is written in an engaging tone and contains nuggets of wisdom which is applicable to almost everyone.

Conclusion

A very short memoir.
