Review

The third novel, while overlapping slightly, continues from the story of the second novel. In Westeros, the story continues the political struggles and intrigues between the different factions, while in the North, the men of the Night’s Watch face off the threat of the King-Beyond-the-Wall, Mance Rayder. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen assembles her forces.

Martin really hits his stride in this book as the narrative takes many dramatic and macabre turns. As with the previous books, some narratives are more exciting than others, but overall the book has good pacing with the last few chapters being very fast-paced. The story also leans into more fantasy as predecessor novels. The character development of this book is also fantastic, especially those of Tyrion and Jaime.

Conclusion

Novel filled with dramatic twists and turns.
