Review

Year One is perhaps one of the most iconic comics in the DC universe; it's a reimagination of the iconic Batman character to something more gritty and targeted towards a more mature audience.

The neo-noir dystopian Gotham depicted in Year One is the Gotham popularized in modern Batman franchises such as the Arkham video game franchise and the Dark Knight film franchise.

The story is dark and depicts the seedy world of drug dealers and prostitutes; the artstyle uses dull colours and the peripheral details, such as fictitious newspaper clippings, depict a city filled with crime and corruption. It is from this dark backdrop that the modern Dark Knight is born.

Conclusion

One of the most iconic series of comic books.
