Review

The fourth Bond novels sees the MI6 agent being tasked for infiltrating a global criminal empire that smuggles diamonds from Africa to the United States through London. Bond is paired with Tiffany Case, a sharp-witted courier with a dark past, and Felix Leiter, Bond's CIA counterpart.

My favourite aspect of this novel is the smooth writing, particularly with regards to the US settings, such as ritzy NYC hotel and the chaotic horse races of Saratoga Springs. The pacing is decent, although there's less action than some of the earlier novels. The villains in this story are also almost exaggerated to comic book levels, such as the the sinister henchmen Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd and the main criminal organization. I did like Case's complex characterization though.

Conclusion

A bit less action than previous stories but still entertaining.
