Nothing's perfect, the world's not perfect. But it's there for us, trying the best it can; that's what makes it so damn beautiful.

Review

This manga series was recommended to me by the concierge in the building I live in. The manga series take place in a world where alchemy, basically fantasy chemistry, exists. The story follows two brother alchemists, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who after messing up an experiment to bring their mother back to life, are forced to pay the price of their mistake with their bodies. The two now search for the mythical Philosopher’s Stone in order to restore their bodies.

Arakawa concocts a highly engaging tale of adventure with some interesting philosophical undertones about religion, ethics, and morals. The overall tone of the story is jovial and comedic, filled with running gags such as constantly covering up Edward’s height. There are, however, very dark moments too. The characters are generally very likable and I enjoyed reading about the background lore of the fictional world.

Conclusion

A great recommendation by the concierge.
