But first, let me tell you all something you might not know... I. AM. A. BELLEND.

Review

I’ve been interested in the creator economy for a while and what better way to learn about it than to read a book by one of the largest creators, Olajide “KSI” Olatunji. I remember watching KSI’s FIFA gaming videos in middle school and since then he has branched out into various other forms of businesses, such as making music and selling energy drinks. This book was written in between his FIFA days and his current situation.

I had hoped to gleam some insights about his experiences with the creator economy, instead I was bombarded with various photoshoots of KSI and a mountain of masturbation jokes. Clearly I’m not the target demographic of his book, as it’s meant to be a companion book to his Youtube channel, offering his takes on everything from dating advice to his mom’s pet peeves on social media. There are some nuggets of insights on filming and producing content, such as the importance of having a presence on multiple social media platforms and the equipment he uses to make videos (Elgato capture cards). The vast majority of advice, such as asking aspiring content creators to create unique content, is pretty generic. If anything this book is an interesting look back at mid-2010s internet culture.

Conclusion

The humour is immature but I'm sure this book will appeal to some of his younger fans.
