Review

The final part of Katniss Everdeen’s story sees her being rescued by the hidden District 13 which serves as the base for the rebellion against the Capitol. The book is no longer centered around the actual Hunger Games but around the rebellion of the districts against the Capitol.

For some reason Katniss has become the face of the revolution and she still has not undergone any maturity or character development since Catching Fire. This book is much more like a young adult novel as it focuses mainly on Katniss’ (oftentimes very childish) feelings with the actual revolution almost like a backdrop. The story also felt like it was written to maximize Katniss’ emotions which, for me, made the book very tedious to finish, especially when the actual Hunger Games were taken out of the picture.

There were some exciting action bits, some scenes where Katniss regains some of her glory from the first book, and it was interesting learning about the Capitol’s defences, but those parts of the book were more the exception than the norm.

Conclusion

A disappointing end to an interesting story.
