So, though we are unlike in body and in mind, yet we find beauty together if only in a dream.
This sci-fi classic follows Shann Lantee, a Terran space colonist in charge of keeping animals on the frontier planet Warlock. While away on a mission to find two missing wolverines, the Terran base is ambushed by Throgs, a race of alien bugs, and everyone is killed. Lantee, along with the two wolverines, must survive both the unexplored planet as well as the brutal Throgs.
The premise is pretty interesting and Norton does a good job building up an exotic planet filled with dramatic fauna and wildlife. There is solid character development from the protagonist and there are many thrilling scenes. I also enjoyed the sci-fi aspects of space exploration and colonization. Despite this, this book feels underwhelming, much more a straightforward mass market pulp feel than an epic like Dune with intricate plotlines and characters. It's also a book clearly meant for younger audiences.
A fun and imaginative adventure without too much depth.
