The mindset isn’t about seeking a result—it’s more about the process of getting to that result. It’s about the journey and the approach. It’s a way of life. I do think that it’s important, in all endeavors, to have that mentality.

Review

This is a picture book of NBA legend Kobe Bryant’s entire basketball career. It features writing from Kobe on everything from his gameprep routine, to commentary on the different players he’s faced. The book also features writings from other basketball legends such as Pau Gasol and Phil Jackson. The backdrop of the writings are beautiful pictures taken by the NBA official photographer Andrew D. Bernstein.

Throughout Kobe’s musings it’s clear the drive and dedication he has for the sport of basketball. He is incredibly analytical in his approach to the game, often inventing and experimenting with his playing style. His famous “Mamba Mentality” is synonymous with hard work, constantly improving his game despite already being one of the top players. His strive for continual improvement and excellence is incredibly inspirational to me.

He gives useful advice both for people on and off the court. He advises people how to determine whether a mentor is a good coach, how to come back from adversity, and how to find drive even with a lack of outside motivation. While much of the advice he gives sounds corny and is often overused, it means a lot coming from someone who lives by his own advice and has achieved tremendous excellence because of it.

Conclusion

RIP Kobe.
