Review

One genre that I've always found fascinating is that of the horror-comedy; being able to evoke two emotions seemingly on the opposite ends of the human spectrum is no easy feat. I find that typically a horror-comedy is either horror with some comedy, or comedy with some horror. This movie is more of the latter.

In Army of Darkness, Ash Williams, a sarcastic hardware store clerk is accidentally transported to 1300AD with a shotgun, a chainsaw, and an Oldsmobile. Ash lead the fight against the forces of evil.

I like how this movie doesn't take itself too seriously; it has tons of slapstick and cartoonish effects. Bruce Campbell (Ash) has so many iconic one-liners it'd make Yogi Berra jealous. Some parts are a bit too over-the-top, but in a good-humoured way. The movie isn't particularly scary, especially today, with its outdated special effects and corny plot, but it's still entertaining.

Conclusion

A ridiculous fantasy horror-comedy that's fun even today.
