Review

On my flight back from Bali I decided to check out this Hindi spy thriller that takes place in the 1990s. Pushkin Verma (Aparshakti Khurana), a sign language expert, is brought in to interpret for the government during the interrogation of Ashok (Ishwak Singh), a deaf-mute young man accused of espionage.

I like cerebral spy thrillers so the premise is right up my alley. The story starts very interesting and I like Khurana's conflicted Pushkin, Singh's mysterious Ashok, and the emotional weight of their interview. The story ended up being very disappointing near the end with a poor payoff but I'm glad Indian cinema is branching away from Bollywood into more "serious" films.

Conclusion

A bad payoff but an interesting premise.
