Can you put this in a good spot? 'Cause all of this shit happened the last time I parked here.

Review

Eddie Murphy plays Axel Foley, a Detroit PD detective who heads to LA to investigate the suspicious murder of his childhood friend Mikey (James Russo). Foley quickly stumbles upon a conspiracy surrounding the influential art dealer Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff) and Foley also incurs the ire of the Beverly Hills PD.

The story is corny and predictable but the characters really carry the narrative. Murphy’s Foley is so damn charismatic that he carries the film almost all by himself. Supporting characters such as Lisa Eilbacher’s Jenny and the Beverly Hills PD duo Taggart (John Ashton) and Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) act as foils for Foley and bring out different facets of Foley’s character. The humour holds up well with memorable moments, such as those with Serge (Bronson Pinchot), and the killer soundtrack which includes Harold Faltermeyer’s Axel F is as iconic as Murphy’s performance.

Conclusion

A lighthearted buddy cop comedy.
