Review

Sacha Baron Cohen dons his Borat character and returns to America once more. This time, instead of reporting on American culture, Borat tries to marry his teenage daughter, Tutar (Maria Bakalova), to powerful American politicians to appease the Kazakh president, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Cohen returns to perhaps his most iconic role and he does a good job. Bakalova’s Tutar makes an excellent supporting character for Cohen’s antics, perhaps better than Davitian’s Azamat. Overall though, this film feels more mature than its predecessor as the humour is toned down. Maybe due to the film trying to have a broader appeal, the film also feels more politically correct than its predecessor. For instance, there were few overtly offside jokes and most of the jokes support mainstream media talking points, such as making fun of Trump’s administration and anti-COVID sentiments. It feels the film no longer focuses on having the funniest jokes as it’s afraid to stray from the mainstream dogma. Despite this, there are some crazy jokes, such as the Rudy Giuliani scene, which I still can’t believe is not staged.

Conclusion

A bit too PC, but still hilarious.
