Get with it. Millions of galaxies of hundreds of millions of stars, in a speck on one in a blink. That's us, lost in space. The cop, you, me... Who notices?
In this action thriller, Tom Cruise plays Vincent, a deadly and ruthless contract killer sent to finish five hits in one night. Vincent coerces Max (Jamie Foxx), a meek taxi driver, to be his chauffeur for the night. Things quickly go awry as Max realizes what Vincent is aiming to do.
Cruise’s confident and smug Vincent is an excellent foil of Foxx’s humble and insecure Max. The script, while corny at times (the film is from two decades ago), is very tight and I particularly enjoyed the dialogues where Vincent and Max wax over philosophies, in particular Vincent's nihlistic views on life. The story itself is very unique and I enjoyed the various tense situations. Personally, I found the ending to be a bit unrealistic but it did complete Max’s character development arc. The supporting cast, which includes Jada Pinkett Smith’s Annie, Mark Ruffalo’s LAPD detective, and Javier Bardem’s drug lord, are fantastic as well. I also really like the bleak aesthetic and clean soundtrack.
Clean thriller film with interesting philosophical undertones.
