Always. You and me.
Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) are a couple living in Victory, a company town in the middle of the desert. During the day, Jack works a mysterious job for the enigmatic Frank (Chris Pine) while Alice spends time with the other wives in their neighbourhood. Alice suspects that the utopian society that they live in is hiding a dark secret.
The story is very intriguing at the beginning with its Twilight Zone-esque atmosphere and the colourful visual style. However, the plot becomes very predictable early on and while there are some plot twists, the twists don’t overcome the predictability of the story. Despite the lackluster script, Pugh is amazing and so are some supporting characters such as Pine’s Frank and Olivia Wilde’s Bunny. Styles’ Jack serves as good foil for Pugh’s Alice. There are some interesting, albeit a tad heavy-handed, themes pertaining to gender roles within society.
Despite the lackluster plot and writing, the film feels quite polished, especially Matthew Libatique’s gorgeous cinematography and the amazing set and costume design.
A tad generic but very polished.
