Review

Four brothers: Bobby (Mark Wahlberg), Angel (Tyrese Gibson), Jeremiah (André Benjamin), and Jack (Garrett Hedlund) reunite as their adoptive mother, Evelyn Mercer (Fionnula Flanagan), is murdered in a grocery store robbery. The four brothers hunt down those who are accountable in order to deliver them to justice.

The story involves classic action tropes such as fast car chases and testosterone-fueled bravado. The story is pointless and has some major plot holes while the supporting cast, such as the comedically villainous Sweet (Chiwetel Ejiofor), are mostly all character archetypes. The four brothers, however, have great chemistry and funny banter. Out of the four brothers, Wahlberg’s brash and hot-tempered Bobby definitely is the most entertaining. If you’re looking for a sophisticated crime conspiracy then this film isn’t for you, but if you’re looking for a simple-minded revenge action film, then this will scratch the itch.

Conclusion

Entertaining crime action film with archtypical characters.
