You stabbed the devil in the back and forced him back into the life that he had just left. You incinerated the priest's temple. Burned it to the ground. Now he's free of the marker, what do you think he'll do?
Past John Wick film review:
Hitman John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is once again called back from retirement, this time by an oath he made to crime lord Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio). After completing his task, a large bounty is placed upon Wick’s head and he has to escape from his pursuers.
This film has almost everything that made the previous film so great, amazing choreographed fights with crispy cinematography and elegant settings. This film also dives more into the underground world of assassins and introduces new characters, such as Ares (Ruby Rose), Cassian (Common), and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne, #MatrixReunion). Some of my favourite scenes are Wick’s preparation scenes, such as consulting with the Sommelier (Peter Serafinowicz) to pick out weapons and the Tailor (Luca Mosca, who is actually the costume designer for this film) for a bulletproof suit. These scenes are so classy but also very engaging.
I do feel that there are areas which fall short from the first film, namely the dulled down story that isn’t as emotional as that from the first film. Reeves is still great as a stoic Wick but the script did not allow for the same emotional depth as the first film.
Not as emotionally charged as the first film but makes up for it in unique action sequences.
