Nicholas Hoult plays Justin, a recovering alcoholic called up for jury duty for a trial, where a man (Gabriel Basso) is charged for the death of his girlfriend. Justin quickly realizes that he's caught in an impossible moral dilemma.

I really liked Hoult from previous roles such as in The Menu and his performance in this film is solid as well. As with other Eastwood films, this one is a lean and stripped-down thriller with a central theme, this time surrounding a moral dilemma. I do think the film probably could have played more with the ambiguity surrounding the mystery but I understand why the focus is on the drama.

Conclusion

A tense courtroom drama.
