Well, I must've been away too long because my feelings are dead. I feel no remorse.
Recently released from prison, drug lord Frank White (Christopher Walken) ruthlessly takes back power in the New York City criminal underground.
Walken plays a fantastic cold and emotionless White, which is contrasted by his excitable right-hand man Jimmy Jump (Laurence Fishburne). It's just surprising how many future stars are in this film, such as Steve Buscemi, Wesley Snipes, and Giancarlo Esposito. The story is a tad corny and fragmented and the pacing is also on the slower end. The film tries to explore a theme of moral ambiguity but it only succeeds at a superficial level. The cinematography is very dark but has a grimy stylistic flair.
A textbook example of style over substance.
