Your story may not have such a happy beginning, but that doesn't make you who you are. It is the rest of your story, who you choose to be. So, who are you, panda?

Review

Po (Jack Black) and the Furious Five are back, and this time they face off against the peacock Shen (Gary Oldman), who has taken over Gongmen City and is building cannons to take over the world.

While the film doesn’t have the novelty of the first film, the second movie is still pretty well-made. The story is again an homage to classical kung fu movie themes, such as the idea of destiny and prophecy. The cinematography and score, while not as beautiful as that of the first film, are still solid; I particularly liked Po's flashback scene. Oldman’s Shen strikes the right balance between humour and malice; I’m always struck by how stacked the cast is; even many of the smaller roles feature the likes of Michelle Yeoh, Victor Garber, and Danny McBride.

Conclusion

A surprisingly solid sequel.
