Review

In an attempt to impress a potential client and keep office morale high, Chicago branch manager of Zenotek, Clay Vanstone (T.J. Miller) tries to throw a Christmas party. Josh Parker (Jason Bateman), the CTO of Zenotek has to supervise Clay and ensure that Clay’s sister and CEO of Zenotek, Carol Vanstone (Jennifer Aniston), does not find out about the party and fire the Chicago branch.

The star studded cast features many notable comedic names, such as Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, and Rob Corddry. Despite all the comedic talent, the movie kind of falls flat. The film’s sense of humour only gets as deep as slapstick comedy with some awkward humour. The film feels much more like a young adult party movie than a conventional holiday comedy. While the plot, as well as many of the jokes, are generic, the film does have fun moments. I also liked the grounding effect of the relatable Josh by Bateman and Olivia Munn’s Tracey.

Conclusion

A very superficial comedy with a few fun moments.
