This is my third time rewatching this movie and it still entertains. Pulp Fiction follows characters of the Los Angeles underworld in several non-linear stories. The characters include two mob hitmen, Vincent (John Travolta) and Jules (Samuel L. Jackson), who are employed by the crime boss Marsellus Wallce (Ving Rhames). Other characters include Marsellus’ wife Mia (Uma Thurman) and aging boxer Butch (Bruce Willis).

The stories range from the banal, such as Willis’ Butch having a casual conversation with Angela Jones’ Esmeralda in the cab, to the extreme, such as Jules and Vincent being sent to kill someone who wronged Marsellus. Throughout all of the scenes, the dialogue keeps the audience enthralled in not only the story, but the characters. The film feels like the audience is hanging out with the characters throughout the different stories.

Tarantino uses the same non-linear narrative technique from Reservoir Dogs and some of the same cast also. Harvey Keitel’s suave and cool Winston Wolf and Tim Roth’s jerky robber Pumpkin make a great supporting cast. There are many characteristic Tarantino signatures, such as the macabre plot details and the mundane violence and brutality.

Conclusion

A deeply original film with amazing style and cast.
