Review

When I saw this on the plane, I had very little context and thought that it was just a normal crime film with great reviews. I was pleasantly surprised by this film and kind of regret watching it on the plane as I would've loved to watch this on a real TV. This horror film follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan) who open a juke joint only to face some sinister unexpected guests.

The performances are phenomenal all around the board, such as Miles Caton's innocent Sammie, Wunmi Mosaku's superstitious Annie, and Jack O'Connell's eerie Remmick. Jordan's suave and badass dual performance is definitely the highlight. The setting of the film in 1930s Mississippi is very unique and the entire film is incredibly polished, with solid costumes and cinematography. The pacing is very engaging and the action sequences are very fun to watch.

Conclusion

One of the best horror films made in recent years.
