Review

Typically movie sequels are pale imitations of the original film but Terminator 2 is a rare exception. The story flips the script by having the menacing villain of the first film (Arnold Schwarzenegger) return but as a protector of the young John Connor (Edward Furlong) and his mother Sarah (Linda Hamilton).

The story is a classic of a deadly character protecting his young ward from an even deadlier character (really reminded me of the premise of The Mandalorian). The father-son dynamic between Schwarzenegger's T-800 and Furlong's Connor really elevated this film emotionally. I also liked how the film didn't portray Furlong's John and Hamilton's Sarah solely as victims; Hamilton's Sarah in particular is fierce and kind of a badass. The new villain, Robert Patrick's chilling T-1000, is a tad dated in terms of the CGI but still makes for some thrilling action sequences.

Conclusion

The film took what made the first film great and added more emotional depth.
