Solomon Grundy, Born on a Monday, Christened on Tuesday, Married on Wednesday, Took ill on Thursday, Grew worse on Friday, Died on Saturday, Buried on Sunday. That was the end, Of Solomon Grundy.
Christian (Ben Affleck) is an autistic forensic accountant who audits financials for some of the most dangerous criminals in the world. Christian is tasked with auditing the finances of Living Robotics by Living’s CEO Lamar (John Lithgow) and his sister Rita (Jean Smart) after they learn of financial irregularities from Dana (Anna Kendrick), an accountant at Living.
The plot feels like various action and thriller tropes combined together, such as the aging law enforcement officer (J. K. Simmons) passing the torch to his mentee (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and the brothers stuck on different sides in a conflict. I can’t speak on the accuracy of the portrayal of autism, but Affleck’s Christian is memorable and his character development is very well-handled. Kendrick’s upbeat Dana makes for a great foil for Affleck’s character. Both Simmons and Addai-Robinson play their roles well and Jon Bernthal’s mercenary is raw and ferocious. Overall I did like how the film tries to be cerebral but it does come off as very corny at points. The action sequences are very tasteful, though.
A badass accountant that makes for a very memorable character.
