I mean, fuck, we're here to have a good time. I just wanna have a good time, until this shit's over, man. This life's gig a fucking rodeo and I'm gonna suck the nectar and fucking rawdog it till the wheels come off.

Review

Matthew McConaughey plays Moondog, a hippie writer forced to finish his latest book in order to receive the inheritance from his wife (Isla Fisher).

Much in Korine’s style, this film is a series of moments, filled with visually striking imagery with a colourful palette. As such, the cinematography is the highlight of the film for me. The story is almost non-existent nor do I feel that the film has a strong central message. It’s just a stoner film that is open to interpretation for the viewer. For me, the lack of a central message is the message in itself. The movie just follows Moondog in his various misadventures with the people in his life, often with no responsibilities and consequences to their actions.

McConaughey is always good in stoner roles and the supporting cast, with big names like Snoop Dogg, Zac Efron, and Martin Lawrence, bring some humour into the film. Personally, I don't like many of the characters and feel that it's a wasted potential and the story could have done more in developing the characters and using them in more meaningful ways.

Conclusion

Very pretty cinematography but lack of meaning makes this film a challenge to finish.
