Review

Two brothers are separated in their childhood and now lead drastically different lives. Kyle Alan "Nobby" Butcher (Sacha Baron Cohen) is an alcoholic football hooligan living with his girlfriend Dawn (Rebel Wilson) and their 11 kids. The younger brother, Sebastian Graves (Mark Strong), is now a top agent for MI6. The two reunite in unfortunate circumstances and Nobby is swept up in the high stakes espionage world of Sebastian.

As with most of Cohen’s films, the comedy is the main selling point. The humour in Grimsby is decent but over-reliant on shocking the audience. While the first few bits are funny because of the shock value (such as the joke with Daniel Radcliffe), but it does get tiring once the shock value is no longer novel. The story is interesting, though, and Cohen and Strong make excellent character foils for one another. Some of the funniest moments of the film stem from their contrasting characters’ dialogues and actions.

Conclusion

The shock value gets old but the film still has some hilarious jokes.
