Review

In the third film of the franchise, the story takes a surprising turn as the focus shifts to Japan. Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) is an American high school student who is forced to Tokyo due to getting into trouble for street racing back home. Unbeknownst to his parents, Tokyo has a vibrant racing scene with a focus on drifting.

I think the setting and story are both pretty corny but the exploration of the Japanese street racing scene reminded me of Initial D and is pretty awesome. If you’re a big fan of Japanese race cars and drifting, you'll really enjoy this film. Yes, most of the actors and actresses look too old to be in high school. Yes, the film features archetypal characters with a paper-thin plot. It’s still a fun film with a banging soundtrack and a fun cast which includes one of my favourite characters from the franchise, Han (Sung Kang).

Conclusion

A fun side story.
