Review

I’ve never watched this growing up and I recently saw it mentioned in Ted Lasso; when I saw that this movie is available on my flight, I decided to finally watch it. The story follows a boy named Hogarth (Eli Marienthal) who stumbles across a giant robot (Vin Diesel) who fell from outer space.

The animation is gorgeous and reminded me of the Disney art style from the 80s and 90s. The voice acting is great; Marienthal’s youthful Hogarth captures the wonder of childhood, Harry Connick Jr.’s suave Dean is fun to watch, and Christopher McDonald’s Kent Mansley provides solid comedic relief. The story feels timeless and the messages conveyed are relevant for audiences of all ages. While the film is intended to be touching and heartwarming, it’s also targeted at a younger audience. I personally didn’t feel emotionally invested in the film but it’s still a very well-made movie.

Conclusion

A story that's suitable for the whole family.
