Review

The story follows Margaret (Sandra Bullock), a successful and domineering editor-in-chief of a major NYC book publisher. Margaret has visa troubles due to being Canadian and forces her assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her so she can stay in the States.

The story hits close to home because I’m currently trying to secure an O-1 visa to build my company in the States. While the real-life process for getting approval to be in the States is quite boring, the premise does make for a cute romcom opener. Bullock’s Margaret and Reynolds’ Andrew have great comedic chemistry and the supporting cast, which includes Oscar Nunez’s Ramone and Betty White’s Annie, also adds an extra layer of charm. The story is predictable and gets very corny, in the second half, but the audience probably expects this.

Conclusion

Fun romcom with good comedic chemistry.
