Review

The premise of the movie is very creative: in America, for 12 hours in a year, all crime is legal including murder. The film follows a wealthy family, the Sandins, as they endure the purge in 2022. The family includes the father James Sandin (Ethan Hawke), the mother Mary Sandin (Lena Headey) and two children: Charlie (Max Burkholder) and Zoey (Adelaide Kane).

The story has many holes and is a stretch in many aspects, including the motives of many of the characters. The film also tries to weave social commentary into the story but it's very heavy handed. Hawke and Headey give decent performances as the parents but I find the performances of the two kids to be a tad generic and bland.

Conclusion

A very interesting premise for a film ruined by poor writing and child acting.
