You have two alphas in the prime of their careers that don't care about who the alpha is. Very rare.

Review

The story of the 2008 USA men’s national basketball team is retold in this story. Coached by Mike Krzyzewski, the stacked basketball team is under immense pressure as the USA men’s team is hot off losing both the 2004 Summer Olympics as well as the 2006 FIBA World Championship.

The film dives into the history of the US men’s national basketball team, of how they started only as an amateur organization until 1992, when NBA players were allowed to play. The US men’s national team dominated international basketball until the early 2000s; the 2008 team is deemed the “Redeem Team” because of the string of failures by their predecessors.

What immediately struck me is how many iconic players that are on the team; there were 11 NBA All-Stars (and an NBA MVP). The roster included legends such as LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. The film shows the shift in mindset of the team under Coach K, where players are more committed and more cohesive as a team. The entire film is based on interviews with all the people involved. While the film tries to portray USA as an underdog, they are by far the best team going into the 2008 Summer Olympics. This film is still an interesting look into the men’s national team, though.

Conclusion

A cool Netflix documentary exploring the behind the scenes of the 2008 US men's basketball team.
