But how does this city at sea really work?

Review

I’ve only been on one cruise ship in my life and to be honest, cruising isn’t my preferred method to travel. I was interested, however, on how cruise ships work and how they can support thousands of people at sea for weeks at a time.

This documentary follows different functions of MSC Seaside, one of the largest cruise ships in the world. It covers everything from procuring the necessary supplies to be out at sea, to navigation in the bridge, to the large sanitation facilities that provide fresh water to the boat.

One thing that stood out is the sheer size of the operation, which usually includes over a thousand crew members and an enormous store of resources. My favourite aspect of the film was when they explored the various engineering aspects of the ship, which were very fascinating.

The film felt like a TV documentary (it is a TV documentary) and I would’ve liked to see more comparisons between a cruise ship and a conventional hotel.

Conclusion

A decent documentary about a cruise ship.
