Review

Ex-Special Forces Frank Martin (Jason Statham) has relocated from the south of France to Miami Florida to work as a chauffeur for a wealthy family. The son of the wealthy family is kidnapped and Frank has to avoid the authorities while he tracks down the kidnappers.

As with the first film, the acting is decent and Inspector Tarconi (François Berléand) is written into this story to provide comedic relief. The acting sequences are more exciting; Statham benefits greatly from Corey Yuen’s choreography and many of the fights were reminiscent of an old school Hong Kong action movies. The storyline and camerawork, however, were over-the-top; the film felt almost like a B movie because the plot was so ridiculous and the editing was so dramatic. That's not to say that the film is not self-aware; the character of Lola (Kate Nauta) is extremely one-dimensional, but still an extremely entertaining character.

The film definitely exploits the trope of the hardboiled character forming a bond and protecting vulnerable children; in this case it’s corny but does not feel forced.

Conclusion

A fun, silly action movie.
