What choice did we have? Our world was dying. And I had to find my clan a new home.

Review

I’ve played a bit of Warcraft III and dabbled in World of Warcraft in middle school but I’m by no means someone who is knowledgeable about the long and complex lore surrounding the video game franchise. For a layman, the adaptation is decent.

The film portrays the story following the story of the evil warlock Gul’dan (Daniel Wu)’s invasion of the fantasy world of Azeroth. It features many characters important to Warcraft lore, ranging from Garona (Paula Patton), Durotan (Toby Kebbell), and Blackhand (Clancy Brown) from the side of the invading orc Horde, to Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel), Medivh (Ben Foster), and Llane Wrynn (Dominic Cooper) from the side of the defending human Alliance.

Both the story and the dialogue were corny and clichéd but the script was written to be simple and superficial so it’s expected. Likewise, no one in the cast particularly stood out. The CGI is solid and the action sequences were entertaining. While this film wasn’t mindblowing, it’s not a terrible video game adaptation.

Conclusion

A surprisingly decent video game adaptation.
