犯我中华者,虽远必诛 [Whoever attacks China will be killed no matter how far the target is.]
In this blatant CCP propaganda film, Jing Wu plays Leng Feng, a PLA special forces marksman who is being hunted down by a powerful drug lord (Dahong Ni) for disrupting his drug smuggling operations.
This is a B-movie in many respects. The story is clichéd and all over the place. The script is corny and lacks nuance. The special effects also feel over-the-top and not in a polished way. The acting is also overly dramatic, especially from Wu. The supporting cast, which includes Nan Yu and Scott Adkins (of course) get their job done but don’t really stand out. Despite this, this film grossed very well in China, perhaps due to the overt patriotism displayed within the film, which borders on jingoism. This film feels like a vintage American propaganda war movie but brought into the 21st century.
The film could have used more nuance.
