7 Wonders is almost like a physical version of the Civilization series of video games. In 7 Wonders, players assume the role of a historical Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and use a card-drafting mechanic to select resources and upgrades to their civilization. The goal is to have the most victory points at the end of the game; players are rewarded victory points for a variety of different accomplishments, such as collecting gold coins, building up the Wonder, and collecting different structures.
I won’t lie, the game’s rules are long and the first playthrough can take a while for the game to progress due to having to learn many of the specific rules and conditions. Luckily, the game doesn’t take too long to play as most player actions occur simultaneously. There is an element of trust as players monitor themselves on each of their actions. I really like the breadth of the game and the amount of strategies each of the players can assume. In one game, I won by going the military victories route and triggered an arms race amongst my neighbours. The artwork is incredible and the game feels very premium quality.
A deep strategy game with amazing art.
