Amicia... will we ever see mummy again?

Review

The story takes place in mid-14th century France and follows Amicia de Rune (Leópoldine Serre), a 15-year-old girl of noble descent. History geeks may know that the mid-14th century in Europe was not a good place to be due to the bubonic plague and Amicia’s family is caught in the middle of the Black Death. The story follows Amicia and her sick younger brother Hugo (Cécile Gatto) as they try to escape both the plague and also the French Inquisition who believe that Hugo is the key to the epidemic.

The story is pretty compelling as it portrays a hostile world that is out to get Amicia and Hugo. The sister and brother duo are hunted by almost everyone they encounter and even by the environment itself. The environment, which is often dark and gloomy, perfectly captures the mood of the epidemic. In particular, the (literal) seas of rats are constantly threatening.

Atmosphere Sinister atmosphere

The core gameplay revolves around stealth; Amicia must sneak around enemies and quietly dispatch them if necessary. Amicia has access to different equipment and skills which are upgraded as the game progresses. There are also puzzle mechanics where Amicia must use both her and her companions’ skills to progress in the linear levels. The gameplay is very polished and feels smooth. I also personally played the game in French with English subtitles for authenticity but the game is also available with English and German voices.

Conclusion

A fun stealth game with great atmosphere and a unique setting.
