Review

Anomia is a fast-paced card game where players sequentially draw and place cards face-up in front of them. The player then has to look for symbols which match their current face-up card on another player’s face-up card. If there is a match, then the player has to face off against the other player by stating a word in the category of the opposing player’s card (categories include themes such as “Types of Doctors” and “African Countries”).

The game is very simple to pick up and learn and is very exciting. The more players that play, the more exciting the game becomes. The wildcards also switch up the game by obfuscating the symbols. There are some themes which are more specific, such as “Hitchcock Film”, so people who may not be attuned to pop culture may struggle with those (to be honest they probably deserve to lose). Most of the categories, though, are pretty common sense. There are several versions of the game, but the one with the most content is Party Edition as it includes the original six decks of cards as opposed to the original Anomia which only includes two decks.

Conclusion

A fun game that gets more exciting with more players.
