The stalemate in the Pacific has been broken.
Platforms played on: Xbox 360
This is the first Battlefield game which I’ve played for more than 1-2 hours. In this multiplayer-only game, the player battles through three main maps featuring famous battles in the Pacific theater of World War II: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. The player fights on either the side of the US Marines or Imperial Japanese Navy with up to 24 people on the same map.
This game is technically a revamped version of the first Battlefield game: Battlefield 1942. The gameplay is a first-person shooter where players from two teams try to capture outposts, using different weapons as well as vehicles.
Defending an outpost
I’ve played a bit of 1942 in the past and 1943 feels like a best-of version of 1942. There are many things missing from 1943. For one, 1943 features fewer game modes (mainly just Conquest), less classes, and less vehicles. The player capacity of 1943 is also a bit over ⅓ that of 1942 (which is 64 players per map). 1943 feels much more casual and “pick-up-and-play” while 1942 has much more depth. There are many upgrades in 1943, though. The upgrades include the graphics (although only marginally), destructible environment, and new gameplay features like air raids. There’s also a new game mode called Air Superiority which focuses on aerial combat. Overall, 1942 is still the better game but 1943 is still fun to play, especially for the pricepoint of the game.
Air Superiority
An easy game to pick up and play with some cool mechanics.
