Review

Price, the protagonist from the first Distraint is also the protagonist in the second game. The story follows Price as he seeks salvation from his prior actions.

The gameplay is much the same as the first game, Price navigates hellish levels and solves puzzles to progress. Some small gameplay mechanics are added in, such as hiding from monsters, but those don’t really contribute much to the overall gameplay. As with the last game, there are some light puzzle elements. I did find the writing to be more interesting in this game, as the experience of Price trying to find redemption from his past is very cathartic, however, the need to shoehorn in the horror elements still feels forced and unnatural.

Conclusion

A 2D atmospheric parable with interesting themes.
