Review

This is yet another failed live-service; this time it’s a combination of Brawlhalla and Smite. DKO is a third-person platform fighting game where the player plays as different mythological figures, each with their own abilities. Like Super Smash Bros., this game uses a percentage health system where the higher the percentage, the lighter (and thus more likely to get knocked out) the character is.

When I first started the game, it became clear that the game had a very low budget due to the lack of production value such as the lack of voiceovers and quality graphics. Despite this, this game has an interesting premise and if they polished the gameplay, could have created a dedicated fanbase. The combat is easy to pick up but can get deep, such as using the different abilities of each character. As with all platform fighters, there are some very sweaty strategies you can use but overall, the gameplay did feel pretty balanced based on what I’ve played. I did feel that the gameplay is slower compared to games like Super Smash Bros. because the player has to navigate across a (sometimes) large stage to get to the action, but overall the gameplay neither disappointed me nor blew me away.

Conclusion

Another live-service getting shut down.
