Review

Heavy metal music meets the apocalypse in this 2D rhythmic side-scroller with charming characters (which may or may not have been inspired by real-life rock figures) and funny lore. The story follows a rock band as they travel around a post-apocalyptic monster-world in a Cadillac convertible.

Post-Apocalyptic World Apocalyptic world

The core gameplay involves the player shooting enemies chasing the Cadillac. In order to deal damage to the enemies, the player has to play a rhythm game, hitting notes on time with the beat. Unlike rhythm games such as Guitar Hero, there are no peripherals, so the player will have to either use a controller or a keyboard to control the car and hit the notes. Although the pace of the notes aren’t as extreme as Guitar Hero even on the hardest difficulty, the multitasking of controlling the car while hitting the notes is pretty demanding.

Gameplay Gameplay

The music ranges from heavy metal to very heavy death metal so it might not appeal to everyone. I did like the goofy art-style, especially the design of the enemies, which were outrageous but fun. The dialogue between the characters is also very fun and, while the characters lack in development, they are all unique and are well-designed.

Conclusion

A niche but charming rhythm game.
