Is that a goat?
Platform played on: PC
This game is a satirical take on the simulator genre. The player assumes the role of a goat who wrecks havoc across an open world map filled with absurdist puns and quirky easter eggs. The sandbox world is buggy in a fun way and features slapstick physics and much glitchy chaos.
Open world for the goat to rampage in
I like how the entire game feels like an inside joke (it started out as an internal game jam held by Coffee Stain Studios). The ragdoll physics with the licking mechanic are both frustratingly fun. The point system along with the open world exploration keeps the world fresh as the player discovers new things to do. The game does get tiring after an hour or two, though.
Points for certain actions
An imaginative and glitchy game with many easter eggs to find.
The first DLC is a parody of MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. The world is a medieval fantasy fiction setting and the player can undertake quests and use skills. It’s nice that they added an objective layer to the otherwise unstructured game.
Funny quests
GoatZ is a clear parody of DayZ, where the player is in a zombie-apocalypse themed world but otherwise feels like the original game. There are some new objectives and mutations but feels less innovative than Goat MMO Simulator.
Zombie world
Goat Simulator: Payday is a parody of Payday where the goat must perform increasingly elaborate heists. The newly added gameplay feature allows the player to play as other animals but the DLC is much smaller in scope than its predecessors.
Playing as other animals
The last DLC is space-themed with the player exploring a space colony, completing missions and earning money. It’s probably the largest DLC by area and there are tons of sci-fi references but it also felt repetitive and not as engaging as the previous DLCs.
