Review

In this quirky underworld adventure, the player assumes the role of Manny Calavera (Tony Plana) is a travel agent for the dead. He unknowingly uncovers a conspiracy to swindle the righteous from their swift journey into the afterlife and sets out to save the goodhearted Meche (Maria Canals-Barrera). The gameplay is a point-and-click where Manny must navigate the underworld to save Meche.

I love the Hispanic noir setting of the game, with its many references to noir films and the 3D calaca character design. The story is compelling and is surprisingly philosophical. The characteristic Tim Schafer sense of humour is throughout the story with its well-voiced and well-written dialogue and fun side characters, such as Manny's companion demon Glottis (Alan Blumenfeld). I also really enjoyed the rich world-building for such a short game.

Conclusion

A compelling point-and-click adventure.
