I picked this game up at a convention in Ottawa; the salesperson at the booth said that he’d never played it but he has played other Rosenburg games and they’re really solid. The premise of the game is two viking brothers raiding different settlements with up to three raiding parties each. The brothers are competing with one another to get the most loot, and they have to use terrain cards to pass through various terrains on the board. The goal of the game is to manage one’s resources and outcompete the other team.
In terms of physical game design, the game is pretty cool. The artwork is decent and I like how the game uses a 3D cardboard boat to move raiding parties. The gameplay is pretty simple and intuitive. The game is relatively quick to pick up but unfortunately the gameplay is very unbalanced. Having the first move is a massive advantage and there are many unscrupulous strategies for winning, such as hoarding all the cards to starve out the opponent. I would recommend coming up with house rules when playing the game. Some suggestions include limiting hand sizes and restricting each turn to only moving one raiding party.
They should have playtested the game first.
