Review

One of my hobbies is playing games that flop and Hyper Scape is the latest game on my list. It’s a battle royale much akin to the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends; it’s a live-service game that’s shutting down within two years of release.

The game plays like any MMO first-person shooter; there are different weapons and equipment scattered around the map and as one progresses during the match, one’s loadout gets better and better depending on the loot that one comes across. One thing the game does have going for it, however, is the movement system. This game feels much more fast-paced compared to its peers due to the parkour system; one can quickly run around the map and smoothly climb over walls and other obstacles. Another aspect of the game I really like is the Deathmatch gamemode, where players can just focus on the combat gameplay.

Deathmatch Deathmatch gamemode

The game feels polished and there are some interesting gameplay components such as special abilities called “Hacks” which can have gameplay effects such as becoming invisible. The game also has an interesting AI system for the map, where the AI can add certain modifiers, such as infinite ammo for everyone and low-gravity mode. There was also supposed to be a mechanic where viewers on Twitch can determine how the AI modifies the map, but I’ve never had any experience with it. Unfortunately, these mechanics did not differentiate this game enough from its (many) peers. This game also did not receive much support from Ubisoft, as I only heard about it when its server closures were announced.

Conclusion

A battle royale that did not differentiate enough.
