This game has millions of players almost exclusively through the power of social media ad spend. If you’ve been on social media at all, you’ve probably seen the gameplay trailers where players control a soldier auto-moving through a linear level. The player moves the soldier left and right (poorly) to obtain power ups and power downs to fight off oncoming waves of enemies. If you’re wondering whether the game is actually good, wonder no more for I have downloaded the game.
The story features a post-apocalyptic world that has been overrun by zombies from the Doom League. The player assumes the role of the human resistance leader. The core gameplay, surprisingly, is actually very similar to the trailers. Different levels have different variations of the gameplay, but the core mechanic is moving your troops left and right to avoid obstacles while getting power ups. The levels are typically pretty easy and the gameplay gets pretty repetitive fast.
Gameplay
There is also a component for town building, as you develop your base in between the missions. As with many mobile games, much of the town building is crucial for progressing in the game but is locked behind time counters and microtransactions. There is a surprisingly fair deal of depth to these mechanics with numerous different resources to collect and upgrades to make. The game is definitely optimized for dopamine hits.
Town Building
Overall though, the game felt soulless with its overcommercialization of everything, including almost every type of microtransactions, such as having to buy blind character packs and locking certain upgrades behind paywalls. The AI-generated art style for some of the scenes also feels low budget.
Upgrading Characters
A mobile game with a great marketing strategy and many microtransactions.
