One of my more perverse hobbies is checking out dying games before they die, and unfortunately Rumbleverse is the next live-service game on the chopping block. The main gameplay format is a battle royale where players defeat one another through wrestling.
Brawling gameplay
Unlike games such as Fortnite, Rumbleverse relies mainly on melee as opposed to shooting. The gameplay is decent but does get very repetitive; it is, however, very fun to goof around with friends, such as trying to suplex one another when jumping off of tall buildings. The brawling is decent but there are definitely some techniques that are very sweaty that the good players are forced to use (I’m not ashamed of over-using stun locking). The map is interesting and I enjoy being able to climb up almost everything. While the gameplay is fun for a couple of hours, I can see why this game flopped, such as the lack of advertising from Epic, the publisher, and the lack of sufficient differentiation in both gameplay and artstyle of similar games. I do think it’s a missed opportunity that they didn’t try to partner with large wrestling brands, but at least the developers were nice enough to refund everyone for purchases made in this very short-lived game.
Tough to survive in an over-saturated market.
