Review

Slayer X is a loud and crude first-person shooter spin-off of the Hypnospace Outlaw universe. The game is an edgelord teenage power fantasy of Zane, a character from the Hypnospace. The story follows the fictional Zane, an X-Slayer, who must avenge his fellow X-Slayers when the Psyko Sindikate launches an attack in Boise, Idaho.

Gameplay Fast-paced gameplay

With its many intentional misspellings and juvenile “your mom” jokes, the game nails the cringe teenage humour that Zane would’ve had. The story is also hilarious and filled with many intentional clichés. The gameplay is reminiscent of games like Doom with fast movement, over-the-top enemies, and labyrinth levels with many secrets. There were some interesting mechanics such as a shotgun with ammo that comes from smashing windows and a gun that spawns rats. The level design is decent, although I did get lost several times. The early 2000s Linkin Park-style rap-rock is also very fitting and nostalgic.

Gameplay Teenage humour

Conclusion

An enjoyable shooter from the universe of Hypnospace Outlaw.
